'La Bella Sedara' Donnafugata 2021

"La Bella Sedara" from the Sicilian winery Donnafugata is an intense and fruity red wine with a typical Mediterranean profile. It is made from a blend of Nero d’Avola, to which small percentages of other red grape varieties grown in the lands of southwestern Sicily are added. The choice of a very delicate vinification and aging only in steel allows for the preservation of the fragrant varietal nature of the grapes. It is an immediate wine, with a fresh and smooth drinkability, that is appreciated at the table for its extreme versatility in pairings. The wine "La Bella Sedara" is produced by the winery Donnafugata with the desire to create a red wine with a convivial and everyday face, medium-bodied and of great pleasure on the palate. It is a label that expresses very well the great vocation of the territory of the Tenuta Contessa Entellina, also for the cultivation of different varieties of red grapes. The wine is, in fact, born from a balanced blend of Nero d’Avola, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and other local grapes. The Tenuta Contessa Entellina is a property of Donnafugata that extends over an area of 238 hectares, in a wonderful hilly territory with altitudes ranging from 200 to 600 meters above sea level. The ventilated climate, with strong temperature variations and clayey-loamy soils, creates an ideal habitat for vine cultivation. The manual harvest of Nero d’Avola and other red grape varieties generally takes place between the end of August and the beginning of September. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about 10 days. The wine matures in steel tanks for 8 months and finishes aging with 5 months in the bottle. The red "La Bella Sedàra" from Donnafugata is inspired by the character of the charming Angelica Sedàra from Luchino Visconti's film “The Leopard,” portrayed by the beautiful Claudia Cardinale. The color is bright ruby red. On the nose, it expresses fragrant aromas of small berries, spicy nuances, and hints of wild herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. The sip is harmonious and balanced, with crunchy and juicy fruit, fine tannins, and a pleasant final freshness.
